  • Nollywood is engulfed in profound sorrow following the passing of its oldest and most revered actor, Agbako.
  • The heartbreaking news of Charles Olumo’s death was solemnly confirmed by Mr. Latin, leaving a deep sense of loss that resonates throughout the film community.

The Yoruba niche of Nollywood is engulfed in deep sorrow as it bids farewell to one of its most treasured figures, Charles Olumo, better known as Agbako, hailed as “the world’s oldest actor.”

Agbako’s journey came to a close on Thursday, September 31, a day that will forever mark the loss of a true pioneer. Bolaji Amusan, widely known as Mr. Latin and the respected president of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), confirmed the heartbreaking news.

In a poignant tribute shared on social media, Mr. Latin posted a touching photograph of Agbako, reflecting on the profound impact he had on the lives of many within the industry.

His message resonated with grief, admiration, and a call to celebrate the life of a man who dedicated his existence to the craft of acting.

As the film community grapples with this tremendous loss, Mr Latin averred that plans for Agbako’s burial arrangements will soon be revealed, allowing fans and colleagues to gather and honor his memory.

He wrote;

“@tampanglobal announces the passing of Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu, fondly known as AGBAKO. Details of the burial arrangements will be shared at a later time. Good night father, 25/02/1923 to 31/10/2024”

Before his passing, Charles Olumo celebrated a momentous milestone—his grand 100th birthday—in 2023. This extraordinary event took place in Abeokuta, the vibrant capital of Ogun State, where Nollywood stars gathered in droves to honor and show their love for this iconic veteran actor.

Esteemed movie stars such as Toyosi Adesanya, Odunlade Adekola, Lere Paimo, Rose Odika, Bolaji Amusan (Mr. Latin), Tunde Kelani, Tunbosun Odunsi, Yemi Solade, and many others graced the occasion, reflecting the profound respect and admiration that Olumo commanded within the industry.
