Afrobeats star Rema’s global hit single Calm Down, featuring American pop sensation Selena Gomez, has surpassed 1 billion streams on YouTube.

This remarkable achievement marks a significant moment in Afrobeats history, solidifying Rema’s position as one of the genre’s most influential artists.

Released in 2023, Calm Down quickly became a worldwide phenomenon. The track topped Billboard charts and garnered millions of streams across various platforms.

Rema’s impressive success doesn’t end with Calm Down. The artist has continued to dominate airwaves throughout 2024 with a string of hit releases, including Ozeba, Aza Man, and Benin Boys, featuring Shalipopi.

In addition to the monumental success of Calm Down, Rema made another groundbreaking achievement by becoming the first Afrobeats artist to perform at the prestigious 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony.

Rema’s streak of success also extends to the Grammy Awards, as he has earned a nomination for the 2025 ceremony, set to take place in Los Angeles.

In addition to this YouTube success, Calm Down Remix made history on Spotify as the first African song to hit the billion-stream mark. The track currently boasts over 1.5 billion streams on the platform.
