In a bold and controversial statement, former Senator Dino Melaye has accused Bishop David Oyedepo, the revered founder of Living Faith Church, of orchestrating the forced retirement of Bishop David Abioye, his long-time vice-president.
The move, which took place in October, shocked many, particularly because it followed a sudden revision of the church’s retirement policy, lowering the age limit from 60 to 55.
At the time, Abioye was 63, while the second vice-president, Bishop Thomas Aremu, was 67—further fueling suspicions about the true nature of the decision.
Abioye’s unexpected exit left an unmistakable void, especially as his absence at the ongoing Shiloh 2024 stirred murmurs among the congregation.
In a passionate and pointed post on X, Melaye shared his personal reasons for not attending Shiloh this year, revealed that he simply couldn’t bring himself to attend without the familiar face of Abioye.
Dino Melaye expressed a deep disbelief over the situation, questioning the rationale behind the retirement of Abioye, a man he believed to be much younger than Oyedepo and still fully capable.
He bluntly stated that the atmosphere at Canaanland would not be the same without the bishop, a sentiment echoed by many who had come to expect his leadership and guidance.
He wrote: “I did not attend Shiloh 2024. Because Shiloh without Bishop Abioye is somehow.
“I can’t understand why Bishop Oyedepo, who is older, is not retired, and it is Bishop Abioye who is younger that should be forcefully retired.
“God did not retire Abioye, only Oyedepo did. Let’s watch..”
