Late Nigerian movie legend, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, recently posthumously awarded at the third edition of the Humour Awards.
The award was presented in recognition of his remarkable contribution to the entertainment industry, particularly in comedy, before his tragic passing on March 2, 2024.
The emotional tribute was shared by Mr Ibu’s widow, Stella Maris Okafor, who expressed deep appreciation for the recognition.
In a touching video message, she described the honour as something her late husband would have cherished, acknowledging the lasting impact he made on the entertainment industry and his fans.
“People love him so much,” Stella said, noting the ongoing affection from fans that is still evident through positive reactions to his social media posts.
Stella also reflected on her husband’s unique comic style, which continues to inspire others in the industry.
“People try to replicate his style,” she added.
The widow also shared touching memories of their time together, recalling the fun moments they shared, especially when Mr Ibu would call her to prepare meals for him and his friends.
“He would say, ‘First class set table for 5 or 10,’” she reminisced, describing how he would often bring his friends over to enjoy her cooking.
Beyond his professional achievements, Stella highlighted that Mr Ibu was also a devoted father and husband, and she expressed how much she misses him.
The Humour Awards organisers were also thanked by the widow for their efforts in preserving and celebrating her husband’s legacy.
