The mother of Nigerian dancer and social media influencer Lil Smart has made an emotional appeal for his release following his arrest on January 28th.
Recall that Lil Smart was taken into custody on charges related to cyberbullying and making allegations against his former label boss, Naira Marley.
Lil Smart had previously accused Naira Marley and associates of kidnapping, assault, and robbery. However, he later issued a statement retracting these claims and admitting they were false.
In a recent video posted online, Lil Smart’s mother tearfully requested help in securing her son’s release.
She identified herself as a single mother and expressed her helplessness in the situation.
“I am the biological mother of Lil Smart who was arrested on the 28th. I don’t have anybody but God; please help me, I am a single mother and I don’t know anybody. Please help me, I beg you,” she cried out.
Few hours ago, the police revealed why dancer Lil Smart was arrested .
During a press briefing held in Abuja on Thursday, the Nigeria Police Force Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that Lil Smart admitted in his written statement that his explosive allegations against Naira Marley were fabricated following his arrest on January 28, 2025, at his residence for defamation.
The police captioned via Instagram;
“ARREST OF SUSPECT FOR CRIMINAL DEFAMATION & CYBERSTALKING. Following a petition filed by a law firm, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime arrested one Idowu Smart Emmanuel, a native of Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, for criminal defamation, cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and falsehood against Abdulazeez Adeshina Fashola (A.K.A Naira Marley).
“Investigations revealed that the suspect, using his Instagram handle @lilsmart_, falsely alleged that he was abducted, assaulted, and robbed of $300, further claiming that Naira Marley had bribed all police officers in Lagos and was involved in credit card fraud.
“The suspect later admitted in writing that these allegations were false and without evidence to prove his claim. On January 28, 2025, he was apprehended at his residence in Megamound Estate, Ajah, Lagos, and the exhibits involved in this crime were recovered.”
