Omowunmi, Mohbad’s wife, has responded to a close friend of the late singer known as Spending who accused her of manipulating the truth and spinning false narratives in the interviews she has granted to the media.
Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, and was buried the following day. On September 21, 2023, his body was exhumed by police for an autopsy.
On Saturday, Spending, a friend of the singer, recounted events from September 10, 2023.
He claimed that Omowunmi’s statements in her interviews were “false”.
He alleged that she had “cursed, argued, and threatened to destroy Mohbad’s career like Lil Frosh’s career was ended by his girlfriend” that day.
Spending further alleged that Mohbad and Omowunmi’s relationship was “toxic,” claiming that she consistently treated him “badly.” The post read in part:
“After Primeboy left. On our way home, while you and Mohbad were arguing, you dumped Liam and started crying and yelling,”
“I had to pick him up to pacify him at the same time while trying to separate you and Mohbad as you were locked up with Mohbad dragging his clothes despite the injury he had sustained from the show.
“You kept screaming and cursing Mohbad. Even Darosha intervened, asking you guys to stop. Your arguments were to the extent of you threatening to end Mohbad’s career like Lil Frosh’s career was ended by his girlfriend.”
“…I know how badly you used to treat Mohbad, and you are out here claiming to have a loving relationship while, in reality, it was toxic. It’s not as you are going around claiming to be.”
Spending also refuted Wunmi’s claims that she provided first aid to Mohbad after they got home. Instead, he stated that it was Bami, another friend, who bought and applied the necessary treatment to Mohbad’s wounds.
He revealed that at 11 a.m. the following day, Mohbad requested a nurse, as his regular one was unavailable. However, after leaving the house, Spending was later shocked to hear that Mohbad had died.
In a particularly startling claim, Spending questioned why Wunmi threw a white item on Mohbad’s coffin, asking if it had any significance.
Spending further accused Wunmi of inconsistencies in her statements, including her conflicting accounts about the nurse’s visit and her denial of being present when Mohbad received his third injection.
Reacting via a lengthy Instagram post on Sunday March 2, Omowunmi admitted to arguing with Mohbad that day but clarified it was over his altercation with a friend.
She refuted claims of making threats, stating that they never argued at home and that Mohbad later apologized, acknowledging her frustration. She wrote:
“I want to set the record straight. The only argument I had with my husband was on our way home because I was upset that he fought.
“We never argued in the house. When we got back from the show, he was downstairs discussing the incident with his friends, including you, until around 6 AM.
“I went straight to the room with our baby Liam, and he later came upstairs in the morning to apologize because he knew I was upset. Which every woman would have done!”
Omowunmi also questioned Spending’s motives, insisting that she and Mohbad shared a “beautiful” relationship. She added:
“You know my husband and I had a beautiful relationship, Spending you know! Your reason for peddling lies is what is beyond my comprehension!!!!!!.”
Mohbad’s wife further accused Spending of “spreading lies” for financial gain and under external influence. She wrote:
“You are only doing this because of the DPP’s advice. If there was no advice, you would not be speaking now. The same people coaching you have also said they will coach the nurse to lie against me, so I will not be surprised if she does.
“You are here spreading lies as if they did not contribute money for you on a TikTok platform yesterday evening!
“This same platform are the same ones who do not have my best interest at heart and have been making my life a living hell!”
She said she would no longer remain silent, vowing to stand her ground henceforth. She added:
“No one would bully me again. Not in this life, not even in the next one. If you come 10 times, I, Omowunmi will come 25 times.
“The reason for my silence all this while was because I was gathering courage! And now I’ve gathered it so keep it coming!”
