Veteran Nollywood actor and director Richards Oguntimehin, popularly known as Don Richard, has stunned fans with a deeply personal health confession that flips the typical narrative about clean living.
In a candid new revelation, the Oba Omo actor disclosed that he became seriously ill not while drinking or smoking, but two years after he quit both habits.
“I gave up cigarettes and alcohol completely for two years. But strangely, that’s when the real battle for my life began,” Don Richard shared, noting that what he thought was a healthy lifestyle change ended up being the beginning of a difficult and mysterious health journey.
The seasoned actor explained that he experienced chest pains, digestive issues, and extreme fatigue that medical tests couldn’t explain. He said:
“After I stopped, my system crashed,”
“I had chest pains, digestive issues, and fatigue that no test could explain.”
Don Richard’s testimony challenges the widely held assumption that quitting smoking and drinking automatically results in instant wellness. According to him, many people underestimate how much the body can struggle to rebalance itself after years of substance use. He continued:
“It was two years after I stopped smoking and drinking that I had health issues. While in the hospital, I realized that majority of the sicknesses affecting prominent people come from the internal organs.”
He believes that the internal breakdown he suffered was a delayed reaction to years of toxin exposure, and his body’s attempt to detox itself may have caused more internal disruption than expected.
While he has since stabilized and continues his career, Don Richard’s experience is a powerful reminder that even healthy choices can come with unexpected consequences.
With his powerful story, Don Richard not only reclaims his health narrative but also adds depth to ongoing conversations about wellness, lifestyle change, and what it really means to take care of the body inside and out.
His story has since stirred conversations about how important it is to prepare the body for major lifestyle changes mentally, physically and medically.
