May Yul‑Edochie, estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has disclosed how her business empire collapsed and left her drowning in debt while navigating the emotional turmoil sparked by her marriage breakdown.
Her confession came during the launch of her beauty product in London, a video of which has since gone viral across social media .
May recounted how, within a few months, adverse developments conspired to dismantle her livelihood, just as she was contending with loans from three different banks. She expressed the immense burden of balancing financial obligations with personal crisis, all under the glare of social media.
In her exact words:
“It was barely a few months when all the unprecedented occurrences came my way, I sat and watched everything go down the drain and it came at a time I had to repay three banks.
“The banks had been helping me really good, but it was unfortunate that everything happened at the same time and I lost everything. While so much was going on social media, I was battling other things a lot of people don’t know about. In the midst of these, I still had to pay three banks loan, interests were piling.
“Like I said I had lost all my businesses, goods expired in my stores, everything went down. But because I believe in myself and I know what I am made of, I said no I am not going to be at the mercy of anyone.”
May Edochie highlighted how stock expiration, mounting interest, and dwindling revenue created a perfect storm. Despite outward appearances, she emphasised that social media masked the true extent of her pain and hardship .
