“Sharing ₦500 and Biscuits?” – Seyi Law, Zack Orji, others spark backlash over Tinubu and APC street campaign in new clip

In the clip, which was shared by a concerned Nigerian woman online, the stars were reportedly seen in the streets of Maraba, a densely populated suburb of Abuja, addressing residents and encouraging support for Tinubu’s re-election bid under All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the voice-over commentary accompanying the video, the celebrities allegedly handed out packets of biscuits and ₦500 notes to children and bystanders as part of their outreach.

Seyi Law, known for his vocal support of the APC and President Tinubu during the 2023 election cycle, was clearly seen leading chants and interacting directly with the crowd.

Zack Orji, another well-known face in Nollywood, stood by his side as both men praised the current administration’s accomplishments and urged locals to remain loyal to Tinubu.

However, the act has been met with widespread condemnation online. Many Nigerians expressed disappointment and anger, questioning why influential figures would resort to what some termed “vote buying tactics” with token gifts.

Critics pointed out that giving ₦500 and biscuits to children amid widespread economic hardship paints a troubling picture of how political loyalty is being incentivized.

This development comes amid increasing scrutiny over the roles of entertainers in Nigerian politics. Their visibility and influence often draw both praise and criticism, especially when they appear to endorse controversial political figures or strategies.

As the road to 2027 begins to take shape, this incident underscores the growing tension between celebrity activism, public sentiment, and the desperate optics of early political campaigning in Nigeria.

Though Tinubu is only midway into his first term, the political chessboard is already shifting. The APC has shown signs of entrenchment, tightening alliances across northern and southwestern power blocs, while opposition parties like the PDP and Labour Party, new alliance party ADC remain in a state of reorganization.

The reappearance of figures like Seyi Law and Zack Orji on the street campaign scene has been interpreted by many as an unofficial soft launch of Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign—or at least a loyalty test among his core supporters.
