Nollywood actress and filmmaker Alice Iyabo Ojo has responded to online activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), following his claims that she secretly apologized to singer Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, and misled the public about her involvement in a WhatsApp group created shortly after the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba (Mohbad).
In an Instagram Live session, Iyabo Ojo addressed the controversy head-on, confirming that she did meet with Naira Marley and music promoter Balogun Eletu, popularly known as Sam Larry.
However, she categorically denied apologizing to either of them. She claimed that VDM’s recent outburst was only a reaction to discovering that she had filed a petition, which she believes made him panic.
The actress went further to share a personal revelation, stating that her son, Festus Ojo, once visited Naira Marley’s residence. According to her, DJ Splash, a disc jockey formerly affiliated with Marlian Music, informed her that Festus was allegedly given a drink that had been spiked with a substance he was unaware of.
Explaining why she chose to respond publicly, Iyabo said:
“I know why you came out to do that video. I know they have told you I have petitioned them… I am a very wise woman. I know when to stand, when to listen, and when to speak. I am not like you that speaks from both sides of the mouth. I am not like you — very twisted, deceitful, and cunning. You’ve tried to bring me down, but you can’t.”
A key point of dispute in the drama is Iyabo Ojo’s claim that she exited the controversial Mohbad WhatsApp group early on. According to her, she left the group after realizing that some conversations were being manipulated and that the purpose of the group was being abused.
However, this claim sparked a fiery response from VeryDarkMan. In his video response, the activist accused her of lying about when she exited the group and backed his claims with what he described as proof.
He displayed alleged screenshots of chat logs showing her activity in the group on October 6, 9, and 13, 2023, and even as late as January 11, 2024.
VDM said:
“She didn’t leave the group when Samklef was insulting Davido or Dre of DMW. She only left the group the following year. She lied.”
Martins Otse also alleged that Iyabo referred to Mohbad’s father as a “useless father” in the group and claimed that some members were plotting to relocate Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi Aloba, out of the country.
He concluded by promising to release more explosive revelations, including what he described as sensitive information regarding a private DNA test that allegedly caused a serious split among members of the group.
As tensions continue to rise between the actress and the controversial activist, social media users remain glued to their screens, awaiting the next round of evidence in what has become one of the most sensational celebrity showdowns tied to the lingering mystery of Mohbad’s death.
