The ancient town of Ikorodu came alive over the weekend as His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, marked his 10th coronation anniversary with pomp, cultural grandeur, and high-profile attendance from across Nigeria.
The highlight of the celebrations was the conferment of the Iya Oba of Ikorodu chieftaincy title on Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
Represented at the event by the wife of the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, the First Lady was officially decorated by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, upon the request of the Ayangburen.

The title presentation formed part of a series of anniversary events that began on August 2, celebrating a decade of Oba Shotobi’s impactful reign.
The grand occasion attracted a distinguished gathering, including the Akarigbo of Remo, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), retired Brigadier-General Buba Marwa, and other prominent monarchs, political leaders, and community stakeholders.
In a memorable moment during the ceremony, Fuji music legend K1 De Ultimate (King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal) paused his performance to tender a public apology to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigerians, and Federal Government aviation officials.
The apology revisited the much-publicized airport saga in which KWAM 1 allegedly delayed a ValueJet flight after reportedly refusing to comply with safety protocols, leading to a tense standoff with aviation officials.
The incident, which sparked nationwide debate over celebrity conduct and airport safety, saw the Fuji star trending across media platforms. At the Ayangburen’s coronation anniversary, KWAM 1 seize the stage as the perfect moment to mend fences, make peace, and reaffirm his respect for national leadership.

Since ascending the throne in 2015, Oba Kabiru Shotobi has been credited with driving community development initiatives, promoting educational growth, and preserving the rich cultural traditions of the Ikorodu Division.
