Popular TikTok sensation Peller has taken to social media to express his frustration over what he describes as an outrageous tax demand from the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS).
During a recent TikTok livestream where he was joined by singer Peruzzi, Peller revealed that the state tax agency allegedly asked him to pay ₦36 million as income tax.
“Taskforce said I should pay N36 million for tax. I don’t have anything. I just came into the limelight last year,” he lamented to Peruzzi and thousands of viewers tuned in.
The conversation quickly became a big deal when Peruzzi, who is known for his straightforward takes, asked why Peller hadn’t paid his taxes yet.
“Do you know you’re supposed to pay tax as a Nigerian? Do you know how much I pay as tax? I won’t mention it here but it’s more than the tax bill they gave you,” Peruzzi said, urging Peller to settle the bill to avoid jail time.
However, Peller insisted the amount was simply too much. He argued that the government has never contributed to his success, nor supported him during his countless TikTok live giveaway sessions. Instead, he believes the bill is a direct result of him openly flaunting his assets and disclosing his income on social media.
“They’re taxing me because I showed my assets and revealed my TikTok income,” he claimed, adding that his earnings come strictly from social media and not from Nigeria-based ventures.
Peruzzi advised him to negotiate for more time to clear the bill, but Peller remained adamant, insisting that the figures do not reflect his reality.
This comes weeks after Peller had to clear up another social media buzz. A fan had asked about his bank account balance on TikTok, referencing his manager’s statement that he had ₦111 million in one of his accounts.
Peller clarified that the said account was only a secondary one and implied that his main account holds much more, scoffing at the idea that he would have “only ₦111 million” given his lifestyle and regular giveaways.
