A building apartment within the courtyard of the Palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, was razed on Friday night.
According to reports, the incident occured around 11:30pm and was triggered by power surge which exploded through electrical appliances in the apartment.
In videos making the rounds, the building had been razed, and virtually all the belongings therein destroyed.

The Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, Comrade Moses Olafare confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.
Olafare said that the inferno however did not spread beyond the affected building located at a section of the palace premises, as it was swiftly put off through the combined efforts of the Government Fire Service, OAU Fire Service & Palace Emergency Control Unit.
He added that the incident did not record casualties, injuries, or even the loss of any cultural item.
