Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, former Governor of Niger State has acccused the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari of being clueless on how to turn the economy of the country around.

This statement was made by the former governor on Sunday while speaking to reporters in his residence in Abuja.

Aliyu said bad policies, poor implementation, wastages and plundering have plunged the nation’s economy into great dangers.

Recall that three days ago, Aliyu had revealed how northern governors did not support former President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term bid.

“Nigeria’s economy has in the last six years been plunged into grave dangers and weakened by bad policies, poor implementation, wastages and plundering.

“Those on the driver’s seat have been clueless on how to turn the economic wheel around out of its wood and the country has continued to slide into doldrums, greater pains, penury and uncertainty,” he said.

The former governor, who was also a former chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, stated that the economic policies put in place in the past six years have been inconsequential and of little effect to redress the wobbling economic situations in the country.

“Our country’s economic base has been without productivities and the manufacturing sectors of the country have been in a moribund state and laying prostate,” he said.

Aliyu added that the COVID-19 pandemic and the increasing activities of criminal armed bandits and kidnappers in parts of the country have further worsened the state of the country’s economy.

“Worst hit places are the states in North Central, North West and North East where insurgents and armed bandits have gone haywire killing and destroying people’s means of livelihoods and economic activities have thus been grounded, hence the spiral cost of living and depreciation in the standard of living in the country,” he added.

The governor also spoke on several other topics, including the school feeding programme, attack on schools and abduction of students.
