Supreme Court declares dissolution of local governments in Oyo illegal

The Supreme Court on Friday declared the dissolution of local government administrations in Oyo State and their replacement with caretaker committees as illegal.

Recall that the Association of Local Government Of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State chapter, had appealed the judgment of the Appeal Court in Ibadan sacking chairmen of local governments and Local Council Development Areas in the state by Governor Seyi Makinde.

The chairmen operating under the auspices of the ALGON elected in 2018 were sacked on May 29, 2019 by Governor Makinde.

But, the Supreme Court on Friday declared that the dissolution was illegal
