Students of Osun State origin who were stranded in Jos, the Plateau capital due to the ongoing violent clashes in some local governments, have been rescued and evacuated to Osun by the state government.

This is as the state government has assured that the Adegboyega Oyetola administration will not spare any efforts in ensuring the safety of Osun students studying in any part of the country.

Receiving the students on Sunday in Osogbo, the Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Wole Oyebamiji lauded the efforts of the security agencies especially the Nigerian Police for ensuring the security of the students in the state.

Oyebamiji stated that the Governor had directed the immediate evacuation of students by appropriate authorities in charge of education matters.

While maintaining that the students notified the state government that they were all safe, the governor explained that the directive was relaxed but that they were in constant touch with the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos who kept in assuring of the student’s security.

He revealed, however, that the government decided on the evacuation option when on Friday, reports were received that there was still dangerous as the students were at risk.

Oyetola urged the students not to be distracted but to concentrate on their studies at home, adding that they should use their time at home productively and should not return to Jos until there is an assurance from security agents that all is well.
