The eNaira speed wallet application rolled out by the apex bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Monday has been pulled down from the Google Play store.

The eNaira has two applications — eNaira speed wallet and eNaira speed merchant wallet.

Since the release, the two apps have been getting negative reviews from Nigerians, who were disappointed with the tedious registration process as required by the CBN.

Many users encountered problems after downloading the app from the play store.

The main issue experienced was registering to create a wallet to enable them to enjoy the services.

According to Google Play, an app can be removed from its store for violating policies.

One of the policy content is minimum functionality.

“At a minimum, apps should provide users with a basic degree of functionality and a respectful user experience,” the Google Play policy reads.

“Apps that crash, exhibit other behaviours that are not consistent with a functional user experience are not allowed on Google Play.”

Oseni Tobi, an app developer, told TheCable that it is possible reviews on eNaira speed wallet dropped to 1 star — which often leads to removal by Google.

“Google can remove the app if the reviews on that particular app dropped to one — a typical example was the Crowwe app by Garba Adamu,” he said.

“In this case, it can also be that the author/developer is trying to fix technical glitches with the application.”

But Osita Nwanisobi, spokesperson of the CBN, told TheCable that the removal was to help the apex bank upgrade the app’s functionalities.

“There is an upgrade going on and I guess it’s ok now,” he said.

The version of the mobile application for merchants, which is called ‘eNaira Speed Merchant Wallet’, is still available for download.

The app, which has over 10,000 downloads, also has its bad reviews.

Both the eNaira speed wallet and speed merchant wallet apps are still very much available on App Store for iPhone users.

Meanwhile, CBN also warned users that it will not be held liable for any loss, whether arising from, or in connection with the use of the eNaira website.

The apex bank disclosed this in a statement on the eNaira website.

“In no event will the CBN or its directors, officers, employees, independent contractors, affiliates or agents, or any of its or their respective service providers, be liable to you or any third party for any use, interruption, delay or inability to use the eNaira website,” CBN said.

“Lost revenues or profits, delays, interruption or loss of services, business or goodwill, loss or corruption of data, loss resulting from system or system service failure, malfunction or shutdown, failure to accurately transfer, read or transmit information, failure to update or provide correct information, system incompatibility or provision of incorrect compatibility information or breaches in system security, or for any consequential, incidental, indirect, exemplary, special or punitive damages, whether arising out of or in connection with the use of the eNaira website.”
