Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has called an emergency meeting with the Ministers of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed; Education, Adamu Adamu; and the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Prof Emmanuel Osedeke, on Thursday, November 18, 2021.

This is coming barely 24 hours after the ASUU body had issued an ultimatum to the FG over unkept promises.

WITHIN NIGERIA reports that the Federal Government had signed a memorandum of understanding with the unions last year and had promised to fulfill demands ranging from payment of earned allowances, the introduction of the UTAS platform for university workers, payment of revitalization fund for universities among others.

Speaking at the University of Abuja on Monday, the Union’s National President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, bemoaned the Federal Government’s unwillingness to address the union’s requirements, leaving them with no choice.
