President Muhammadu Buhari has received the South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Ramaphosa arrived at Aso Rock at about 10 am on Wednesday and was received by Buhari. He, thereafter, inspected a guard of honour and was treated to a 21-gun salute.

The 69-year-old South African President visit is coming hours after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, confirmed the first three cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Nigeria, linking it to passengers from South Africa.

WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported that Director General of the NCDC, Dr Ifedayo Adetifa had said: “In line with the routine travel test required of all international travelers and genomic sequencing at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) through its National Reference Laboratory (NRL), Abuja —confirmed Nigeria’s first case of the Omicron variant, also known as the B.1.1.529 lineage.
