Barely one month after unknown gunmen abducted members of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Kakau Daji, Kaduna, sixty-one members of the church have regained their freedom.

The new development was confirmed to newsmen by the chairman of the Kaduna chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Joseph Hayab.

According to Kaduna CAN chairman, the abductees were released late Friday.

Recall that gunmen had invaded the church located in Chikun LGA of the state on October 31 and killed two persons, while several others were kidnapped.

Hayab had said that 66 persons were abducted from the church while that two of the abducted persons were killed on November 6.

Three others were injured and taken to the hospital — leaving 61 persons in captivity.

Hayab had also said that the abductors demanded N99 million for the release of the worshippers.

Speaking on Saturday, Hayab said the remaining 61 Baptist church members were freed alongside nine others by the bandits.

“We thank God they are back but more needs to be done to stop future occurrence,” Hayab said.
