Three persons were killed and two others were injured in Adamawa State during a fight between herders and farmers.

The fight took place in Toungo Local Government Area, where two farmers allegedly responded to complaints that their farms were being eaten up by cows, only to be slaughtered by the cows’ owners.

It was gathered Tuesday night that in the course of the clash which occurred Monday afternoon at the Kasuwan Ladi village in Toungo, two farmers and a herder died, with two others sustaining injuries.

Sources said some herders put their cattle into the farms of the deceased farmers on that fateful day, and that when the farmers were informed about the destruction going on in their farms, they visited the farms, got into heated outbursts with the invading herders, and were beaten to death.

A source said it was after the two farmers were killed that surviving farmers mobilised other farmers and succeeded in killing a herder.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the deadly clash.

According to him, operatives of the Adamawa Police Command had arrested three suspects and the situation had been put under control.

The Toungo clash would come as a shock to Adamawa people who have not heard about herders/farmers clash anywhere around the state in a long time.
