Ondo, Oyo paid above N8000 for 12.5kg of gas in November – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has disclosed that Ondo, Oyo and Osun state paid the highest amount for liquefied petroleum gas better known as cooking gas in November, 2021.

The average gas price during the month under review is N7,308.06.

The average price of refilling a 12.5kg cylinder of cooking gas by consumers during the month under review is N7,308.06,

This is contained in the NBS report titled: ”Liquefied Petroleum Gas (cooking gas) price watch (November, 2021)”.

According to the report, cooking gas price increased by 10.09 percent on a month-on-month basis from a lower cost of N6,638.27 in the preceding month of October, 2021.

The value also increased on a year-on-year basis to 78.99 percent from N4,082.97 in November, 2020 to N7,308.06 in November, 2021.

“The top three states with the highest prices in November 2021 were Ondo, Oyo and Osun with N8,721.43, N8,648.33 and N8,431.25 respectively, “the report reads.

“Conversely, the lowest average prices were recorded in Borno State, Yobe State and Nasarawa State with N5,413.33, N6,300.00 and N6,390.63 respectively.”

Across the geopolitical zones, the report showed that the average price was highest in the south-west at N8,023.55, followed by the north-west and north-central at N7,427.12 and N7,361.00 respectively.

The north-east zone had the lowest price of the product at N6,647.22 compared to other zones.

The average price per litre of household kerosene paid by consumers in November, 2021 increased by 4.17 percent to N441.06 on a month-on-month basis from N423.42 in October, 2021.

On a year-on-year basis, the average price of the product increased by 24.81 percent from N353.38 in November, 2020 to N441.06 in November, 2021.

Ebonyi (N650.00), Cross River (N590.91) and Enugu (N589.81) states are the top states that paid the highest on an average litre in November, 2021.

While the lowest average prices were recorded in Bayelsa, Katsina, and Zamfara with N274.44, N326.92 and N333.33 respectively.

Timipre Sylva, minister of state for petroleum resources, had said President Muhammadu Buhari promised to take action on the current cooking gas price hike.
