How Olubadan of Ibadanland died — Palace spokesperson

Details of how the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji joined his ancestors, have emerged.

Oba Adetunji passed on at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, on Sunday. He was aged 93.

The Olubadan died 22 days after the death of Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi.

Oba Adetunji was crowned Olubadan after the demise of Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade.

Explaining how the monarch passed on to reporters, the Palace spokesman, Adeola Oloko said: “It was around 1am that Kabiyesi passed on.

“Around 9pm (Saturday), he was first taken to a private hospital, before he was carried to UCH Ibadan around 1am, thereafter he passed on.

“Baba passed on after a brief illness. He spent about five to six days at the hospital.”

He said the late Olubadan will be buried on Sunday (today) by 4pm.

Oloko refuted rumors that the monarch died of COVID-19.

The Olubadan has since been buried.
