A mum-of-two, Sara Gomez, has died after undergoing a liposuction operation which allegedly left injuries “more typical of the result of a knife fight”.

The 39-year-old visited the private Clinica Galna in Cartagena, Spain, to undergo the £4,800 procedure on December 2.

The cosmetic treatment is meant to remove fat as well as cells to prevent more fat cells from being created.

Sara reportedly told the doctor before the operation she had already undergone this procedure before.

She was then allegedly told it would not cause any problems.

After the five hour procedure, the surgeon allegedly told Sara’s family “everything went well” but that she had lost a lot of fluid and they were working to stabilise her.

According to local news, she was rushed to the Hospital General Universitario Santa Lucia three hours later, where she was admitted in hypovolaemic shock and a serious condition.

Sara’s brother Ruben Gomez told local news: “Not even in the extreme can they imagine the reality that we are going through right now.

“They kept her waiting there for four hours, bleeding to death, and she came here in a near-fatal state.”

The mum died on January 1 after spending nearly a month in the ICU.

The family’s lawyer Ignacio Martinez said the victim’s injuries were “more typical of the result of a knife fight”.

Sara leaves behind a daughter and a younger son.

The investigation is ongoing.
