The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has rejected the National Business and Technical Examinations Board’s (NABTEB’s) Advanced Level as an entry requirement for Direct Entry (DE) into tertiary institutions.

The board said the directive became necessary following the discovery that relevant government policies on A Level programmes do not permit NABTEB from conducting Advanced Level examinations.

A statement by its Director of Admissions, Mohammed Ahmed, which was made available to vice chancellors and other heads of tertiary institutions in the country, said JAMB would not process the admission of any candidate with NABTEB A/L Certificate.

The statement reads: “It has come to the notice of the Board that some institutions are accepting NABTEB A/L GCE as a qualification for Direct Entry (DE) Admissions.

“JAMB is aware that NABTEB is not authorised to offer GCE and is, therefore, compelled to take appropriate action.”

It added: “Any A/L GCE Certificate issued by NABTEB is, therefore, not registrable with JAMB and the board would not process the admission of any candidate with such a result.

“Candidates who wish to enlist for A/Level examinations are to note.”

The board also announced that registration for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the Direct Entry (DE) examinations will begin on February 12.

The board said the examinations would hold between April 20 and 30, 2022.

The board announced this in its weekly bulletin released yesterday in Abuja by its Head of Media and Protocol, Dr. Fabian Benjamin.

In the timeline of events attached to the bulletin, the board announced that “UTME/DE registration starts February 12, 2022 and ends on March 19, 2022. Mock examination holds on April 20, 2022. UTME holds from April 20 to 30, 2022”.

Also, JAMB has said it would refund N4,000 deposit paid by candidates who could not complete the registration for the 2021 UTME and the DE examinations.

In its latest bulletin, the board urged the affected candidates to visit its website and complete a form for the refund of the value of the draft they submitted to the board.

The bulletin reads: “This is to notify all 2021 candidates who had deposited a draft of four thousand naira (N4,000) for late registration for the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry but were unable to complete the registration process owing to no fault of the board, even after the board had extended the registration period twice, to visit the board’s website https://www.jamb.gov.ng, and complete a form for the refund of the value of the draft they submitted to the board.

“The above candidates are to click on the link 2021 UTME/DE Unregistered Candidates Bank Draft Recapture and fill the spaces after which they would key in the token sent to the phone numbers they had submitted during the submission of their drafts.

“It is this token that would be used to access a form on which they will fill in their account details for the refund of the value of the draft.”
