Israel has revealed plans to deepen mutually beneficial diplomatic and economic relations with Nigeria

Israel who described Nigeria as a wonderful country with amazing people, spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday through its Ambassador, Michael Freeman,

The Permanent Representative of Israel to ECOWAS said Africa’s most populous state had the potential to be greater.

“Nigeria is a wonderful country with wonderful, friendly and hospitable people”, the envoy stressed.

Freeman noted that the two nations have prospects in different fields and much to learn on both sides.

“My job is to help connect and think of different areas that can work – education, agriculture, water, health.

“If there is something or anyways you want to work with Israel, we are happy to work with you to build those bridges.”

British-born Freeman, who worked at the Israeli embassy in London, presented his credentials to the Foreign Affairs Ministry on Monday.

More than 50 Israeli companies in Nigeria are into construction, infrastructure, communications, information technology, agriculture, water management etc.

Some donated food items and relief materials to Nigerians during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020.

Diplomatic relations were established in 1960. In 2006, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed to formalize bilateral consultations on political issues.
