Top 8: AFCON 2021 quarter-final power rankings revealed

The quarter-final stage of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, will begin on Saturday evening.

WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that the AFCON round of 16 was concluded a few days ago.

Cameroon, Senegal, Morocco, Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Gambia, Egypt, and Equatorial Guinea have all qualified for the AFCON quarter-final.

Cape Verde, Nigeria, Malawi, Comoros, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Gabon and Mali were all eliminated from the AFCON 2021 in the round of 16.

Below is the top eight for the 2021 AFCON power ranking after the round of 16 matches:

1. Senegal.
Senegal was the only team that won 2-0 in the AFCON last-16.
The Teranga Lions defeated Cape Verde 2-0 to qualify for the last-8.

2. Morocco.
Morocco came from a goal down to beat Malawi 2-1 in the round of 16 to qualify for the last-8.

3. Cameroon.
The host nation defeated debutant Comoros 2-1 in the last-16.

4. Tunisia.
Tunisia defeated Nigeria 1-0 despite the absence of their head coach and over 10 ten players due to positive COVID-19.

5. Gambia.
Gambia won 1-0 against Guinea to book their place in the last-8.

6. Egypt.
Egypt won Ivory Coast 5-4 on penalties after the game ended in a 0-0 draw after 120 minutes.

7. Equatorial Guinea.
Equatorial Guinea defeated Mali 6-5 on penalties after the match ended in a 0-0 draw after 120 minutes.

8. Burkina Faso.
Burkina Faso won 7-6 on penalties against Gabon after the game ended in a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.
