Nigeria has recorded 145 new cases of coronavirus in nine states and the federal capital territory (FCT).

The COVID-19 result was announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in its daily update for Saturday, February 5, 2022.

According to the agency’s update, Imo state was top of the list with 65 new cases, followed by Lagos with 36 new infections, and Ondo with 20.

Other states that recorded new infections include Kano (6), Osun (6), Rivers (6), FCT (3), Delta (1), Kaduna (1) and Ogun (1).

The NCDC, however, said the cases reported on Saturday included a backlog of infections from Imo and Lagos states.

Three persons were confirmed to have died of COVID-19 complications on Saturday, bringing the country’s fatality toll to 3,139.

Meanwhile, 144 patients were discharged after recovering from the infection on Saturday.

According to the agency, the figure included “16 community discharged cases reported from Imo state 3rd Feb”.

A total of 253,685 infections have now been confirmed across the country — out of which 230,126 persons have been discharged and 20,509 are active cases.
