Rimamsikwe Hassan Karma, the Chairman of Ussa Local Government Area of Taraba State, has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on the council.

The action, according to him, became necessary in order to halt the escalation of the ongoing conflict between two communities, who on Friday threw caution to the wind.

The people of Rufu and Lissam communities, were said to have engaged themselves on Friday in a battle that led to massive destruction of property.

Speaking to newsmen via telephone, the chairman admitted that the people took the law into their hands by going as far as attacking themselves and destroying valuables.

Karma noted that problem started when masquerades from one of the communities allegedly went berserk, flogging innocent people.

It was gathered that the masquerades even beat up a pastor, a situation, which angered the other community, who immediately went on a reprisal attack.

Though no casualty, as at the time of filing this report was recorded, the chairman, however, confirmed that three persons were badly injured and they are currently responding to treatment in the hospital.

He said heavily armed mobile policemen and soldiers have been deployed to the area to calm the situation.

Karma added that the curfew, which according to him starts from 7p.m to 6a.m, he believes, would restore back the much desired normalcy to the council.

Meanwhile, the state command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abdullahi Usman, could not be reached for comment as at the time of filing this report, but a senior police officer, who craved anonymity, confirmed that additional mobile policemen had been deployed to the council to assist conventional policemen.
