Seven killed as Lagos-bound bus crashes on Niger highway

Seven people have been confirmed dead in a lone accident involving a commercial bus along the Minna-Suleja Road in Niger State.

The bus was said to be conveying passengers from Katsina State to Lagos State when the crash occurred around 7pm on Monday.

According to PUNCH, an eyewitness stated that five men, one woman and a child, were killed in the crash, while those that sustained injuries were transported to the Gawu Babangida General Hospital for treatment.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said it was a lone accident that was caused by a mechanical fault.

He said, “On Monday, there was a lone fatal motor vehicle accident at Farin-Doki village, via Paiko, along the Suleja-Minna Road involving a Toyota bus with number plate KNC 297 ZU driven by one Ilyasu Bala.

“The vehicle was coming from Katsina and heading for Lagos. The driver lost control of the said vehicle at a point around Farin-Doki village due to a reported mechanical fault developed by the vehicle.

“Unfortunately, the bus somersaulted, while the driver and six others died on the spot, eight other passengers sustained various degrees of injury.”
