Members of the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) have started a two-week warning strike from today (Monday).

In a statement, NAAT President Ibeji Nwokoma said that the warning strike was caused by the Federal Government’s refusal to fulfill a 2009 agreement.

According to the statement, the two-week strike began following the expiration of the government’s 14-day ultimatum.

He explained that following the resolution during a virtual meeting of the association’s National Executive Council, all laboratories, workshops, studios, and farms would be closed for the duration of the warning strike.

According to Ibeji Nwokoma, 97.8 per cent of the branches of the association voted in favour of the industrial action.

He explained, “In the meantime, branches are also directed to hold congresses on Monday, 21st March, 2022, in the morning, to declare the commencement of the warning strike in their respective branches.”

He further explained that branches are directed to constitute monitoring teams to ensure compliance and enforcement of the warning strike.
