The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has directed all students organization across the country to commence mobilization of students ahead of its planned protest set to hold in Abuja on the 28th of March.

Within Nigeria gathered that NANS earlier made a statement on the 16th of March, issuing a 12 days ultimatum to the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)  to put an end to the ongoing ASUU strike and reopen all schools.

In a letter directed to all student leaderships and signed by the NANS president, Asefon Sunday, and the Secretary-General, Adekitan Lukman, the student body charged them to mobilize their students stressing that there’s no hope that campuses will be opened soon.

“Sequel to our ultimatum issued to the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to find a lasting solution to their face-off for our university to reopen on or before 28th, March 2022”

“With no hope for a resumption of academic activities on our campuses, you are by this notice directed to commence immediately mass mobilization of students to resume their academic activities on the newly created University of street Abuja” a part of the statement reads

The ASUU strike has lasted for more than a month and the union is yet to reach an agreement with the FG on their demands.

ASUU is demanding the renegotiation of the ASUU/FG 2009 agreement and the sustainability of the university autonomy by deploying UTAS to replace the government’s  Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system (IPPIS).

Also, for the release of the reports of visitation panels to federal universities, distortions in salary payment challenges, funding for revitalization of public universities, earned academic allowance, poor funding of state universities, and promotion arrears.
