Barcelona President Joan Laporta has expressed his regret and pledged to ‘take action’ after Eintracht Frankfurt of the German Bundesliga eliminated the LaLiga giants from the Europa League on Thursday.

Thousands of extra Frankfurt fans gained access to the Nou Camp for the quarter-final, according to Laporta.

Barcelona drew 1-1 in the first leg in Germany, but were still favorites to win the second leg at home after a 15-match unbeaten streak.

Frankfurt, on the other hand, won 3-2 in the Nou Camp in front of an estimated 30,000 German fans.

Thousands of Frankfurt fans could be seen cheering in the home end, despite the fact that they had sold out their away allocation.

Barcelona President, Laporta told reporters after the match, “Frankly what happened makes me feel embarrassed and ashamed. There were many fans of the other team and not many of ours.

“I’m very sorry for what has happened. What we can avoid are certain situations but as of now, we will have to be much more strict. We can’t allow these situations to happen, so we will take action.”
