“The Anambra police operatives courageously and successfully repelled an attack on Anaku divisional headquarters in the early hours of April 20,” NAN quoted him as saying.

“The operatives stood firm and engaged the hoodlums, which made them to flee the scene.

“The miscreants, in a bid to escape, threw bonfires inside the station and it affected three of police operational vehicles.

“No casualty on the part of police and all police arms are intact.”

Ikenga added that calm has returned to the area following the deployment of additional operatives.

The development comes amid attacks on communities across the state in recent months.

Recall that five persons on April 18 who were returning from a traditional wedding ceremony were abducted by gunmen in Akpo-Nkpologwu road in Aguata LGA of the state.

Days before the abduction of the wedding guests, gunmen attacked a police checkpoint in Aguata LGA, which resulted in three officers sustaining injuries.
