A retired Nigeria Police Deputy Inspector-General, Israel Ajao, is dead.

The former senior officer passed away on Friday at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

Ajao, who hailed from Oluponna in Osun, was the pioneer Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Intelligence Unit.

He served as the DIG in charge of Force Criminal Investigations and later Operations before retiring in 2010.

Ajao advanced the community policing agenda and held think-tank positions including the Board Chairman, Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps.

He was an alumnus of the University of Ibadan (UI) and the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru near Jos.

A statement on Saturday by Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi said Ajao “will be greatly missed in the gathering of the nation’s eggheads”.

The FPRO quoted the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba reaffirming the commitment of the Force to continually honour its fallen heroes who served the country diligently.

“IGP Baba commiserates with the late DIG’s beloved family, relatives, and friends, wishing them the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss. He equally prays for the repose of his soul”, Adejobi added.
