Smuggling: Over 10,000 Jerry Cans Of Petrol intercepted In Lagos – Customs

Nigeria Customs Service says it has confiscated several jerry cans containing petroleum product from suspected smugglers.

The seizure was made in Badagry and its environs between January and June 7, 2023 by men of the service in charge of the Seme Area Command.

The Customs Area Controller, Seme Area Command, Bello Mohammed Jibo, made the disclosure on Thursday.

He said the seized product was about being smuggled into Benin Republic.

Jibo said during the period under review, the command made a remarkable interceptions of 10,865 jerry cans of PMS of 30litres each, which is equivalent to 325, 950 litres.

“The seizure has a Duty Paid Value of N65.62 million. In the same vein, the continuous surveillance of the beaches and creeks by our men recorded another interception of 1,600 jerry cans of petroleum product.

“The arrest was made on June 7 along the Seme- Badagry waterways. The 48000 litres of PMS has a DPV of N11.6 million and in line with extant laws, the seized product will be auctioned,” he added.
