The National Security Council on Wednesday said it was considering a nationwide ban on the use of motorcycles to curtail the movement of terrorists and suspension of mining activities to deplete their funding sources.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, disclosed this to State House Correspondents after the Council’s meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Malami, who was flanked by the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, explained that the stated steps were part of the resolutions being by the Council, as part of the ways to defeat terrorism in the country.

Malami noted that terrorists have moved from the conventional ways of funding their activities to mining and ransom taking making it necessary for the government to act.

Aregbesola affirmed that substantial efforts went into the gathering of intelligence before the recent attack on Kuje Correctional Center but regretted that there was an absence of will to act on it.

Aregbesola said that President Buhari has received a report on the preliminary investigation on the Kuje attack and officers who have been found to renege on their responsibilities would be punished.
