Gunmen killed three policemen and five vigilante members after they ambushed some security men at Jidda-Bassa community in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The incident happened on Saturday afternoon on a farm when vigilantes and police officers deployed to trail hoodlums attacking farms in Jidda-Bassa community came under fire.
According to Daily Trust, a reliable source said the bodies of the victims had been deposited at the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.
The Security Adviser to the Kogi State Governor, Commodore Jerry Omodara (rtd), who confirmed the incident said some security men were detailed to the community after some residents reported alleged attacks on their farms.
“Unfortunately, they were ambushed by gunmen who killed three policemen and five vigilantes,” he said.
Omodara said the state government would take proactive steps to arrest the situation, adding that all those involved in the killings would be arrested and brought to book.
The state government advised the people of the community to be calm.
