Governor of Niger State, Abdullahi Sule has lamented the spate of kidnappings across the state.

The development came barely 24 hours after the kidnap of the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Yakubu Lawal, by gunmen on Monday night, the state governor, Abdullahi Sule, has decried the spate of kidnappings across the state.

Sule, while reacting to the incident on Tuesday at the Government House, Lafia, laid emphasis on the level of insecurity in the Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area where a teacher working with the Government Science Secondary School was recently killed, among other security issues in the LGA.

He said, “The spate of insecurity in Nasarawa Eggon LGA is unfortunate. Three residents were recently kidnapped but my administration is determined to handle the situation.

“I had no idea that some of our commissioners do not have police attached to them until today, and other commissioners have three or four policemen because of the situation they find themselves. This is very wrong. We should seek police protection.

“In a week, we now have three incidences. For that reason, we cannot fold our arms. We have to be able to take a stronger position. I urge you as members of the executive, especially top government functionaries, to do the best you can, to be more cautious. It’s unfortunate that a commissioner will be driving alone in the middle of the night.”

Governor Sule further warned that his administration will take stringent actions against perpetrators of crime and criminality in the state, stressing that government will beef up security around the Nasarawa Eggon LGA.

“Efforts are on top gear to draft additional security to Nasarawa Eggon LGA and other parts of the state to safeguard the lives of citizens but all political appointees and top government functionaries have to be more cautious while going about their responsibilities,” the governor added.
