The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company has disclosed that power supply had been restored to the Cross River State Government House, Calabar.

This is coming after the PHED Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Benson Uwheru, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor, Prof Benedict Ayade.

This was contained in a statement released on Wednesday to newsmen in Port Harcourt by the company’s Head, Corporate Communications, John Anonyai.

According to the statement, the visit was to strengthen the partnership that co-existed between the Cross River State Government and the power firm.

Dr Uwheru, applauded the Governor for receiving him despite the concerns of power supply to the Government House and the state Ministries, Departments & Agencies and across the state.

He introduced the new leadership of the PHED that stemmed from the Federal Government led restructuring of the Discos as well as his plans to expand the network through the Calabar metering programme in the Calabar Power for all project.

He explained that the disconnection of the Government House from the PHED supply was due to a breach in communication between the firm and the State Government and pledged his commitment to provide power going forward.

Prof. Ayade commended the PHED boss for his approach in conducting the affairs of the DisCo as well as his decision to restore supply to his office.

Governor Ayade acknowledged the improved supply experienced in other parts of the state and applauded the PHED MD/CEO for the feat.

While urging Dr Uwheru to sustain the feat, the governor said the former’s visit was a marker to a mutually rewarding relationship between the state government and the Disco while pledging his commitment to consistent payment of bills going forward.

The statement said Governor Ayade made good of his pledge by clearing the bills accumulated by the Government House while pledging to issue an ISPO to the PHED for monthly deduction of N10 million as payment for the MDA electricity bills.

To this end, the PHED boss commended the governor for his prompt response, saying it was an evidence of his decision to partner with the Disco, as he looked forward to increased business relationship between both parties.

“This singular action by your excellency has proved beyond doubt your willingness to support us, and, be rest assured that I will, in turn show gratitude by ensuring power is restored to the Governor’s Office within 24 hours.” Dr Uwheru said.

The statement said electricity supply was restored to the Government House after the meeting.
