There is Pandemonium in Umuopu community in Enugu Ezike, Igbo-Eze Local Government Area of Enugu State as unknown gunmen have shot dead a  woman identified as Ogochukwu Onuh.

This is happening barely one month after one Mr. Joseph Ujah on Saturday, 6th August, 2022, was allegedly murdered in Igogoro, a neighbouring community in the same Igbo Eze North Local Government Area by men of the Anti-Kidnap Squad, a division of the Nigeria Police.

Though the incident happened on Saturday night, the woman, said to be the wife of one Akada, a former neighborhood watch leader in the community this has thrown the whole council area in mourning mood.

According to reports, the gunmen attacked Akada’s home but he managed to escape, leaving his wife at the mercy of his assassins. It was gathered that after raping the woman to coma, they shot her on the chest.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital in the community hospital but couldn’t survive the gunshot wound.

WITHIN NIGERIA investigations showed that in recent time, Igbo-Eze North local government area has become a flash point of many criminal activities, a situation that led to the imposition of dusk to dawn curfew in the council area.

However, due to pressure from many well meaning citizens to relax the curfew as many economic activities have literally collapsed owing to the restriction of movement, it has been shifted from 6am to 10pm.

Despite this new development, criminalities have continued to fester in the council area.

Meanwhile when our reporter called the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO , Mr. Daniel Ndukwe for his confirmation, he couldn’t pick his call.

However, a senior police officer in Ogrute who spoke to WITHIN NIGERIA under anonymity said the incident is still under investigation.
