Jigawa pays death benefits to families of 72 deceased civil servants

Over N181 million death benefit has been paid by the Jigawa State Contributory Pension Scheme to the families of 72 civil servants that have died in the last two months in the state.

This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary of the scheme, Alhaji Kamilu Aliyu Musa, who made this known while making payments to the 375 retired civil servants in the state on Tuesday.

He said the board has paid the N783,734,328.06 million as a terminal benefit to 375 retired civil servants in the state.

Musa said the amount was the terminal pension for those who retired from service from July to September, 2022.

According to him, the amount being paid covered the retirement benefit, death pension and death pension balance.

He said the payment covered retirees from the State Civil Service, Local Government Councils’ service, and Local Education Authorities (LEAs).

According to him, ‘’N583,598,012.35 was paid to retirees who retired from state service, Local Government Councils (LGC) as well as in Local Government Education Authorities (LGEA),

families of 32 deceased employees from the state civil service, 25 persons from the LGC and 15 persons from the LGEA received a total of N181,556, 867.29.

“N 18, 355,107,14. was also paid as death pension balance to the families of 23 retired civil servants who died before they reached five years after their retirement.”

He, however, commended Governor Muhammad Badaru for his commitment towards the payment of the retirement benefits.
