Police announce portal, numbers to report cybercrime

The general public has been advised by the inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, to report all cybercrimes to the Police.

Identity theft, child sexual exploitation, cyber-stalking, cyber-bullying, credit card fraud, internet fraud are the examples of cybercrimes listed.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the following portal was announced: https://incb.npf.gov.ng, interpolnigeria@npf.gov.ng, and numbers: WhatsApp 07043797900, call/SMS 08094557845.

The Cybercrime Reporting Portal, domiciled at the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, gives access to intelligence and data sharing with the 195 member countries of the INTERPOL.

The website also has various resources such as abridged cybercrime awareness material, online safety tips, the 2015 Cybercrime Act, etc.

Adejobi said to expand the intelligence gathering, Baba has ordered the completion of a new office complex opposite the Louis Edet House for the Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB).

The IGP charged the Assistant Inspector-General of Police FIB to deploy human and material assets for the effective gathering of active intelligence.

Baba further directed the AIG-FIB to commence training for its officers and men on using the new office complex and new gadgets.

The police urged Nigerians to provide timely information to help the security agency achieve effective policing and public safety.
