Sylvester Nwobu-Alor, one of the mentors of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has died.

Nwobu-Alor, a veteran grassroots political strategist, died on October 7 at the age of 95 at Regina Caeli Hospital in Awka, the capital of Anambra State.

He struggled with an unspecified illness for a long time.

Nwobu-Alor represented Njikoka South Central in the old Anambra State House of Assembly in the Second Republic.

He also assisted Obi when the latter was governor of Anambra State, assisting him to maintain order in the state’s parks and markets during a time when criminals acting under the guise of the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) wreaked havoc.

Using his native intelligence and political sagacity, Nwobu-Alor, popularly known as ‘Onwa’ (moon), sanitised the system.

Nwobu-Alor, who is one of the founding fathers of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was one time a director-general of the Peter Obi Campaign Organisation while Obi was vying for the office of governor.
