The State Executive Council has requested a review of the state’s flood map capacity in an effort to prevent the impending flood cases in Akwa Ibom State.

The council also ordered all pertinent emergency management organisations to be on high alert.

Following the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday at Government House in Uyo, which was presided over by the Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong, disclosed the information.

The Commissioner said the council has also mandated the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, to start sensitization in rural areas, which he said is a step in managing a possible occurrence of flooding.

According to him, “the recent threat of flooding in some areas of the state also received the attention of the Council.” The Council has called for a review of the flood map capacity of the state, directing that all relevant agencies involved in emergency management should be on red alert.

“The council also mandated the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, to start sensitization in rural areas as a step in managing a possible occurrence.”

The Commissioner also disclosed that the state government-owned Four-Point By Sheraton Hotel at Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area has been completed and handed over to its new management, Marriott International, for commencement of operations.

He said the test run of the hotel will soon commence, prior to the official commissioning of the facility for use, as all the 146 rooms are ready for use.

He said the development was contained in a report presented by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Bassey Bassey.

The Information Commissioner said upon receipt of reports by the various ministries on projects under their portfolio, the Executive Council directed the ministries to expedite work on those projects to catch up with the time frame for completion and to also beat the continuous eroding value of the nation’s currency.
