The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Anambra State has stated that the election of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, as president in the 2023 general election is a move to bring Igbos into the corridors of power.

According to the Anambra state PDP, Atiku-presidential Okowa’s ambition is the Igbo man’s best bet for power and country restructuring.

WITHIN NIGERIA reports that Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, Director General of the PDP’s newly inaugurated Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) in the state, has advised Anambra PDP members not to allow sentiments or emotional attachments to draw them too close to the state’s former governor, Peter Obi, who is the Labour Party’s presidential candidate (LP).

Okonkwo, who noted that Obi’s presidential bid would not sell because it lacked a strong alliance, told members in the state shortly after the PCC’s inauguration that it is only Atiku’s presidential ambition that brings an Igbo man closer to the corridors of power where major decisions are made.

He continued, “Throughout his political career, Atiku has always had a burning desire to bond with an Igbo man,” noting that his decision to identify with the Atiku-Okowa presidency is because he does not see any problem with a Fulani man who has solutions to the country’s problems succeeding another Fulani as president in 2023.

Similarly, the party’s Anambra PCC chairman, Ben Obi, is said to have stated that Atiku-presidential Okowa’s bid is not difficult to market because it is the surest way for the Igbos to smell power.

Obi, who described the PDP’s vice presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa, as the Igbo man’s next-door neighbour, explained that his selection as Atiku’s running mate meets the Ohanaeze’s demand for the emergence of an Igbo woman at Aso Rock in 2023.

As a result, he urged PCC members to go all out to sell the Atiku-Okowa vision to all wards and polling units in the state to ensure victory in 2023.

The Anambra PDP campaign council chairman also urged party members in the state to focus on electing Atiku as Nigeria’s next president and to disregard all threats posed by Obi and his All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) counterpart, Justice Peter Umeadi.
