The Anambra State Command Police Command has debunked report that gunmen attacked its personnel at a checkpoint in the Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.

Recall that some gunmen reportedly attacked some police officers, killed an undisclosed number of persons and injured others in the Ihiala-Uli axis area of the state.

Security operatives in the area reportedly removed their uniforms and fled to nearby bushes and houses, abandoning their duty posts.

It was also reported that the attack forced motorists and commuters to run for dear lives as the gunmen shot indiscriminately to scare people away.

Reacting to the report, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement debunked the report, describing it as mischief.

Ikenga urged the general public to disregard the information, saying, “The Command wishes to let the members of the public know, that there is no such incident of any attack on police checkpoints in Anambra state.

“Please kindly disregard it, it is an act of mischief makers who want to incite tension in the state.

“The Police shall continue to provide security and enhance peace in the state.”
