Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has dismissed claims that his party lacks the necessary structure to win Nigeria’s presidential election in 2023.
Aiming for Nigeria’s existing political parties, Obi stated that the structures they claim to have are what have caused the country to be as bad as it is and in need of better leadership.
He described the existing structures in the country as criminal structures that have hampered Nigeria’s growth and development.
Obi listed some of the harms that parties claiming to have structures have done to Nigeria in an interview with Trust TV that was published on Tuesday.
He said:
The structure they are talking about is the structure of criminality, it is the structure that has kept Nigeria where it is today, it is the structure that has produced the highest number of poor people living in a country, it is the structure that has produced the highest number of out of school children, it is the structure that has produced the highest youth unemployment, it is the structure that has produced not just pass India in infant mortality, I can go on and on and tell you.
I Governed Anambra Without Having Party Members In The Legislature
Speaking about his time as governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi stated that it is irrelevant that the Labour Party does not have candidates for the National Assembly in many constituencies.
He argued that this had no bearing on his ability to lead Nigeria because he governed Anambra without the participation of his party members in the State House of Assembly.
He said:
Don’t worry about that. I governed Anambra State with 30 members of the house, none from my party, so don’t worry about that. I’ve told you, we will secure and unite Nigeria. We will show purposeful leadership.
