Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara has sworn in six new permanent secretaries to fill some vacancies in the leadership of the state civil service.

This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Jamilu Iliyasu, Press Secretary to the Governor, on Friday in Gusau.

Matawalle also swore in four newly- appointed Special Advisers and State Auditor-General for Local Governments.

Others included Chairmen and Permanent Commissioners of the State House of Assembly Service Commission and Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC).

Speaking at the inauguration at the Government House, Matawalle urged the appointees to deploy their wealth of experience and expertise in ensuring the proper implementation of government policies and programmes.

He reminded the Permanent Secretaries of their role in the general administration of the respective Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) they may find themselves.

He said the success or otherwise of the MDAs to carry out the mandate rested on the officials.

He, therefore, urged the permanent secretaries to stick to the provisions of the civil service rules and ensure zero tolerance to laxity, corruption and indiscipline.

The governor said that his administration would not tolerate any compromise and disregard for the principles of due process and rule of law.

He urged the Special Advisers to see their appointments as a form of trust from the government and goodwill from the people of the state.

Matawalle, therefore, urged them to live above board in the discharge of their responsibilities so as to justify the confidence reposed in them.

The governor urged them to complement the state executive council in fashioning out efficient policies and programmes to accelerate the development of the state.

Speaking to the new chairmen and permanent commissioners of the State House of Assembly Service Commission and ZASIEC, Matawalle drew their attention to the sensitivity of their commissions and urged them to discharge their duties diligently.

Matawalle also reminded the newly- appointed Auditor-General for Local Governments that Zamfara had established the Bureau for Public Procurement and was implementing the global accounting system of IPSAS.

He urged the Auditor-General to ensure that no individual or organisation violated the guiding accounting principles and practices of the state.

The governor assured the people of the state of his administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment to promote development.

He appealed to all political appointees, civil servants, and people of Zamfara to pray and support the government in achieving lasting peace in the state.

The governor also urged the people to pray for the success of security forces as they battle across various theatres to restore law and order in the state.
