Shina Peller, the member representing Oyo State’s Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency in the House of Representatives, has claimed that Nigerians place too much importance on the office of the President.

Peller stated in a statement on Saturday that the presidential election is not the most important election for the general election in 2023.

He told Nigerians to stop worrying about who will succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 because that is just one of many political offices, and one person cannot make any meaningful change.

According to the lawmaker, Nigerians should be interested in how to create a system that works so that the person in power must key into it.

He did, however, express optimism that the country’s youths will be able to elect the next president in 2023 if they put their population to good use.

Peller said;

I believe that the presidential election is not the most important in Nigeria. What is most important now is to develop a system that works for everybody.

A single man can not make up a system. The president is just a component of the system and can’t singlehandedly address critical issues affecting us as a country.

It is too soon to predict the winner

The lawmaker also stated that it is too early to predict who will win the presidential election in 2023. However, he added that by January 2023, things will be clearer.

He said:

It is too early for anyone to predict that confidently, by January 1, 2023, people would know whose chances are brightest. The president is just one person out of the system, he can’t veto critical issues affecting us as a country.
